Since I dropped cable, I thought I’d share a couple of Netflix recommendations.

First off is the new Dave Chappelle stand up special. From what I’ve gathered, it’s his first since hitting Ctr Alt Del on the Chappelle Show. As always, Dave tackles there issues while keeping you rolling. It’s much better than I was expecting.

Second is a show from the BBC called W1A. It’s basically a mockumentary on working at the BBCs new headquarters. The first two “seasons” are basically a set up for the excellent third and final season. It’s a lampoon of BBCs corporate culture sort of like Top Gear did briefly in a few episodes. Like most BBC shows, the American version (30 Rock) is much better, but W1A had me laughing out loud.

So what’s hiding in the dark corners of Netflix that you would recommend?

I’ve enjoyed the Marvel and DC shows that are on there. Gotham and Supergirl on the DC side. And Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil on the Marvel side. I’ve never been a big fan of the comics or the movies but these shows are much more interesting. Of course there’s also my favorites of Breaking Bad and House of Cards as well. Just finished Dear White People, that was a fun short one. Oh and Stranger Things is well worth the hype.

I’d like to find some cool automotive stuff though. My favorite show of anything on the Internet is Roadkill. I’m wondering if Netflix/Amazon have anything that would pique that same interest.

There’s a lot of good tv on there. My number one recommendation is Black Mirror, just make sure you save time to watch something lighthearted afterwards. Other shows I’ve enjoyed:

Narcos

Halt and Catch Fire

Mind hunters

Ozark

Into the Badlands

The Office (both versions are worth watching)

Parks and Recreation

I quite liked Futurama and Ancient Aliens. they were good, mindless fun for when you needed something to escape to.

Occupied. It’s one of few shows I have felt compelled to watch; I almost skipped work to finish the series. It’s that good.

Danger 5 is hilarious absurdity. As is Aqua Bats Super Show.

I liked Blame, it’s an interesting Anime story. I have also loved the Voltron reboot.

Archangel is a good mystery/drama starring a very young Daniel Craig.

If you haven’t watched it when it was on TV, Person of Interest is fucking fantastic. It is worth sticking with it, the first season is formulaic, but it gets so, so much better and really intense later.

Peaky Blinders is really good. I also just started watching Godless which is pretty good already too.

I just started stranger things, which is excellent so far. I started breaking bad but didn’t have the time to get into it. It’s on my winter list for sure.

Just watched the UK version of the Office. I would really like the UK Oppos on here to chime in on drinking in the workplace. Is that really common?

Like most BBC shows, the American version (30 Rock) is much better

heresy aside (the US usually ruins good british shows), 30 Rock and W1A are completely different shows.
W1A is a continuation of Twenty Twelve, which is a rip-off of The Games

I started watching inbetweeners but just couldn’t get into it. I’ll watch a few more episodes though since shows take a while to get going.

That was a bit tongue in cheek, especially since 30 Rock came out 15 years earlier.

I’m in the US so I couldn’t speak to it. As a warning, if you try to watch the US Office now you’ll find the early episodes to be pretty derivative. Give it a chance, stick with it, and it evolves into its own show and becomes rather good. It drags a bit near the end but it finishes strongly.

Most all of their standup specials are good. Ari Shafir’s Double Negative is agreat one.

Stranger Things, Narcos, Punisher

but seriously though, check out Twenty Twelve or The Games if you’re into dry humour about running an office. The Games had a spiritual successor called Utopia which is also really good.

in the workplace?.... that will get you sacked almost every where.... grabbing a pint over lunch is still pretty common tho.. (tho.. also.. increasingly likely to get you sacked...)

least thats how it was when i left the uk in 2012

Mind hunters was really really good, but I wish there were more suspenseful moments, like at the end where you know who almost does you know what to you know who. That was the best moment of the whole show.

I think Twenty Twelve is only available for purchase on Amazon at the moment. I am keeping an eye on it to see if it pops up on Hulu or Netflix. Doesn’t look like The Games is available in the US at all.

I remember watching it in 2011-12. and now that I think of it can’t recall seeing it again. might have aged as well as I remember.
